TNUHDB– Livelihood Interventions in Resettlement Tenements

TNULM has been actively working in resettlement tenement areas for enhancing the livelihoods of the resettled population through its various interventions.

Tamil Nadu Urban Livelihood Mission has been playing a key role in providing livelihood opportunities for resettlement tenements of Greater Chennai Coporation – Perumpakkam, Kannaginagar, AIR land, Navalaur and Gudapakkam, Semmanchery.

The Mission conducted a detailed survey covering 59,990 households to collect details on those households which need to be formed into SHGs, those members needing skill training and those in need of credit linkage for economic activities. TNULM has drawn a comprehensive plan, in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board to support the resettled families for sustainable livelihood opportunity through Entrepreneur Development Programme, Employment through Skill Training and Placement and SEP components.

In Phase -1, TNULM had identified 1550 youth who are in need of skill training through survey.   The survey has covered information of basic details like age, education, present skills, jobs, remuneration and expected training is collected and compiled at the tenement level.

TNULM is working with RSETI and Skill Training Providers such as TVS Skills, L&T Skills, MRF etc for the resettlement tenements.  In addition to the above, short term skill training programs have been conducted in Catering and Bakery related trades, Self-Employed Tailor, Front-end loader (JCB) operation, Artificial Jewellery Making and manufacturing of bamboo products.   As of now, there were 823 youth have been trained under ESTP & EDP and 515 youth have been given job opportunities.
